What CLAVIS does, what it does not, and what you agree to.

Plain terms for a tool that computes tax. The short version: CLAVIS computes and shows its working; the professional judgement, and the return, remain yours.

It is a computation tool. Not tax advice, and not a filing agent.
You stay responsible for what you file and for the facts you give it.
No investment advice. It states what an instrument does under the Act, never what to buy.
Indian law governs these terms.

What CLAVIS is

CLAVIS reads tax documents, computes a return under the law in force for the year, and keeps a record of how each figure was reached. It computes every figure twice, with two independently written engines, and reports when they disagree.

By using it you agree to these terms. If you are using it for a firm, you confirm you may accept them on that firm's behalf.

What CLAVIS is not

Not tax advice. CLAVIS applies statute to the facts it is given. Whether those facts are complete, whether a position is right for a particular taxpayer, and what to file are professional judgements it does not make.
Not a filing agent. CLAVIS can produce a return in the format the portal accepts. It does not file on your behalf, and it is not an e-Return Intermediary.
Not investment advice. CLAVIS states facts about statutory instruments — lock-in, liquidity, the deduction available — and computes the tax effect exactly. It does not rank instruments by expected return, recommend one, or assess whether any of them suits you. That is regulated advice and we are not registered to give it.
Not a substitute for representation. CLAVIS will show you what a notice asks and what your records say about it. It does not draft replies to the department or represent anybody.

What is yours to do

The facts. A computation is only as good as what it was given. CLAVIS says plainly when it cannot establish something, and when a figure is an upper bound rather than an amount — read those, they are the honest part.
The review. Check the working before you rely on it. It is shown for exactly that reason.
The authority. Upload only documents you are entitled to hold and process. If you act for clients, you are responsible for having their consent.
Your account. Keep your sign-in to yourself. Everyone in a firm signs in as themselves, because a shared login makes the audit trail name the wrong person.

Fair use

Paid plans carry an allowance of client-years — one taxpayer, one assessment year. Recomputing a client-year never counts again: re-running after a new document is exactly the behaviour that catches errors, and we will not price against it.

The free trial is limited per visitor so that one person cannot exhaust it for everyone. Do not attempt to evade those limits, resell access, or use CLAVIS to build a competing service.

Availability and change

We aim to keep CLAVIS available and correct, and we will tell you when the law it computes changes. We do not promise uninterrupted service, and we may change or withdraw features — where a change affects a figure you have relied on, the record of what was computed, and under which rules, stays exactly as it was.

We may suspend an account that is being used unlawfully, or in a way that threatens the service for others.

Liability

CLAVIS is provided as it is. We stand behind the computation: if CLAVIS computes a figure wrongly from facts correctly given to it, tell us and we will fix it and say what happened.

We are not liable for tax, interest or penalties arising from facts that were incomplete or wrong, from a return filed without review, or from a judgement CLAVIS told you it could not make. To the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Your data

How we handle personal data is set out in the privacy notice, and in more technical detail on data handling. In short: the trial stores nothing, records stay in Mumbai, nothing is sold, and you can ask us to erase what we hold.

Your records are yours. We do not use a firm's client data to train anything — no AI model reads your documents at all.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
